10/22/2021 0 Comments Maple Class Baking: Báirín BreacThis week, the Maple Class were learning about traditions and histories associated with Halloween. We learned that Halloween is part of Irish history as it originated here many centuries ago. We talked about differences between celebrations in the past and in the present.
As part of our learning, we baked a barm brack together, known in Irish as 'báírín breac.' It is a dense fruit cake made with various dried fruits soaked in tea with a ring or coin hidden inside that will bring good luck to whoever gets the special slice! Have a look at the pictures below to see our baking in action!

10/15/2021 0 Comments Maple Class Potato Cooking! This week was very exciting in the Maple Class as we harvested this year's late crop of potatoes! We had a fantastic surprise when we dug up some big potatoes from our tubs and decided as a group that we would roast them!
We got some salt, pepper, oil and fresh rosemary from the herb garden to season the potatoes with and roasted them in the oven for 30 minutes. We enjoyed the tasty treats with a little barbeque sauce! The Maple Class were super helpers at washi, chopping and preparing the potatoes and we had a wonderful experience seeing the potatoes through from ground to plate. Have a look at the pictures below to see all the fun we had :) 10/15/2021 0 Comments Elm Class Leaf ArtWe were super busy and creative in the Elm Class this week creating art using foraged leaves from outside! We collected one leaf each from outside and created a picture inspired by the leaf, incorporating it into the finished work. We were super proud of all the creative work the Elm Class came up with! Check out the amazing pictures below.

This is a super area of our school that we are lucky to have thanks to the efforts of one of our teachers Siobhán in securing important funding for us. We look forward to having many more weeks of enjoyable reading at the pop up library! 9/17/2021 0 Comments Amazing Aistear!Aistear resumed in 1st Class this week and it was a welcome part of our day that brought excitement, fun and learning.

We went outside and explored the geodome where we found peppers, courgettes, aubergines, tomatoes, strawberries and lots more growing steady inside. We inspected the raised beds and found the potatoes and pumpkins to be growing very well and we were so surprised to see our wildflower garden in full bloom! Lots of very lucky bees and butterflies are making their home here this year. Check out the pictures below to see us exploring and having lots of fun! |
